On March 15, 2020, the Honourable Nicole Duval Hesler, then Chief Justice of Quebec, and Sonia Lebel, then Minister of Justice, agreed to suspend the extinctive prescription and limitation periods in civil matters until the health emergency declaration expires1.
Close to four months later, on July 13, 2020, the Honourable Manon Savard, now Chief Justice of Quebec, and Simon Jolin-Barrette, current Minister of Justice, announced that the suspension of time limits in civil matters would be lifted as of September 1, 2020.
