PRACTICE AREAS

We advise clients on a wide range of matters, such as professional liability (in particular in the health sector and construction), directors’ and officers’ liability, product liability, civil, commercial and agricultural liability, litigation involving latent defects, life insurance and disability insurance, the analysis, drafting and revision of insurance policies and endorsements, opinions on coverage and disciplinary proceedings, to name but a few. We also handle complex court cases involving numerous parties and expert witnesses. In such cases, a multi-disciplinary team can be assembled to meet the needs of each individual situation. We also act frequently in class actions.

Our team is continually working on developing and implementing an efficient and economical approach that takes into account the objectives sought by its clients, so as to represent and advise them on all aspects of potential legal disputes or court cases. With their vast experience in cases that involve almost every field of economical activity, our litigation lawyers represent clients at all levels of our judicial system.

Although we may be litigators at heart, we are conscious of the realities of the insurance industry and the legal world in which we live. The lawyers on our team are particularly aware of the importance of controlling costs, and strive to apply creative and flexible methods for achieving practical solutions tailored to the specific problems of the case at hand.

The major involvement of Stein Monast LLP’s lawyers with the Barreau du Québec and its various committees (complaint review committee, disciplinary committee, Court of Appeal committee, members’ services committee, teaching at the École du Barreau) confirms their excellent reputation and credibility built up over the years with the members of the profession.

We also endeavour to become involved in the insurance field in order to have a better understanding of the realities of the industry, whether through the Association des femmes d’Assurance de Québec, the Société des experts en sinistres, or by offering training to our clients. Keeping our clients informed and up to date is a priority. Accordingly, many of our lawyers are ChAD-certified trainers. We also offer regular training sessions tailored to the needs of our clients, and often appear as conference speakers for the Institut d’assurance dommages, Insight or the Canadian Institute. Some of our lawyers lecture on a regular basis at the Université Laval (on liability or procedure), the Bar (ethics and Disciplinary Law, liability, evidence, insurance, procedure and security) in addition to participating in professional development activities held by the Bar.
